Would wooden bunk beds from the 1960s or 1970s be safe to use now?

My mother in law has my husband's bunk bed from when he was a good in storage and the bunk bed itself was my father in law's when he was a child. I am 50/50 on if I want to use it for my kids or to buy a new one. I wouldn't mind using it but just not sure how safe they would be to use now. Any input would be great.
